Who we are
DiskiCharades is run by Powerset Technologies (Pty) Ltd in South Africa. Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), we are the "responsible party" for the information described here. You can reach us at masibonge@powerset-technologies.com.
What we collect
What you give us
Nothing, to play. There are no accounts, and the app never asks for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, camera, microphone or location. If you email us, we receive your email address and your message, and we use them only to reply.
Collected automatically, if you leave usage sharing on
- Anonymous usage events, such as which deck you picked, the round length, how many cards were marked correct or skipped, and whether you shared a result.
- An anonymous ID that the app creates on your phone. It is a random code and is not linked to your name, phone number or any account.
- Basic device details, such as your phone model, operating system version, app version, language and screen size.
- Crash reports: technical details about what went wrong, such as the app version, phone model and error information.
When your phone connects to our analytics and crash-reporting providers, they receive your device's IP address as part of making the connection. We do not use it to identify you.
Collected when the app downloads decks
Our servers keep short technical logs of requests, including IP address and time, to keep the service secure and fix problems.
If you report a card
We receive the text of the card you reported. We do not receive anything about who you are.
Kept on your phone only
Your settings (sound, haptics, tilt sensitivity, screen-awake and usage-sharing choice), the decks you have downloaded, and whether you have seen the intro. The game also reads your phone's motion sensors to detect tilting. That stays on your phone and is never sent to us.
Why we use it
- To run the game and deliver decks.
- To fix crashes and bugs.
- To learn which decks and features people enjoy, so we can improve them.
- To keep our servers secure.
- To answer your emails.
Analytics and crash reports are optional. You can switch them off at any time (see "Your choices and rights").
Who we share it with
We don't sell your information and we don't show ads. We use service providers who process data for us, and only for the purposes above:
- Hosting and data storage, including Amazon Web Services and Neon.
- Product analytics, PostHog.
- Crash reporting, Sentry.
- App stores (Apple App Store, Google Play and Huawei AppGallery), which collect their own information when you download the app, under their own policies.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
Where it is processed
Our providers may store and process data outside South Africa, including in Europe. Where this happens, we use providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to POPIA.
How long we keep it
- Usage events: up to 12 months.
- Crash reports: up to 90 days.
- Server logs: up to 30 days.
- Emails to us: as long as needed to deal with your request.
Your choices and rights
Switch it off. In the app, go to Settings and turn off "Share anonymous usage data". This stops analytics and crash reports, and may take effect from the next time you open the app.
Your rights under POPIA. You can ask us whether we hold information about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email us at masibonge@powerset-technologies.com. Because our data is not linked to your name, we may not be able to find it unless you can give us your anonymous ID. If we can't link data to you, we will tell you.
Children
DiskiCharades is a general-audience game and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Security
We use encrypted connections and limit who can access our systems. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect the information we hold.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, for example by adding paid content, accounts or advertising, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
Contact and complaints
Questions about this policy? Email masibonge@powerset-technologies.com. If you aren't happy with how we have handled your information, you also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa).
